“10 Rules for Creating Perfect Headlines”

Just how important are headlines?

Well according to Dan Kennedy the headline is the single most important element for any kind of advertising you might do. Yes.. this includes all sales letters, social media posts and email marketing.

Why are headlines so important?

Did you know that on average, 8 out of 10 people will read the headline but only 2 out of 10 will read the rest.

If your reader doesn’t read your content, then it’s a waste of time creating it! A great headline is key as it will entice people in and make them want to carry on reading.

Headlines have to grab your readers attention and that’s why its so important to get the headline right!

10 Rules for Creating Perfect Headline

1 – Make the words BIG and BOLD. It’s the first thing people see so make your headline stand out. Use a different font to stand out and make sure its 50% larger than the rest of the copy.

2 – Don’t using all capital letters in the headline. Its ok to capitalise a few words for emphasis, but don’t use all caps because it’s hard to read. Capitalising the first letter of each word can increase response rates.

3 – Use quotation marks and other forms of punctuation. Using quotation marks around the entire headline sparks interest in what you have to say. Using other forms of punctuation can also create interest such as question marks, exclamation marks and dashes but don’t go over broad

4 – Length isn’t everything it’s the words that count. Make sure your words speak to your prospect, pique their interest to get them to read on and make sure it contains some kind of benefit.

5 – Imitate the professionals. Read newspapers and magazine headlines see what catches your eye and see how you can fit it in to target audience.

10 Rules for Creating Perfect Headline

6 – Don’t get too clever. Don’t confuse your prospect by being cute or clever, after reading your headline they should never have to guess what the rest of your copy is about.

7 – Its about the reader.  Always speak to your prospect’s interests and desires. Tell them what you can do for them, how you can change their life, how you can make things easier or better.

8 – Don’t trick prospects. Don’t disappoint your reader by tricking them into reading your copy with an offer of Free stuff and then finding out they have to pay in the long run. Yes it may grab their attention but people will be disappointed and annoyed.

9 – Never go without a headline. Don’t ever create any kind of sales letter, social media post or email campaign without a headline.

10 – Don’t use your company’s name in a headline. Its about the prospect not about you so never use you or your company in your headline.

Follow these rules when creating your headlines, no matter what kind of products or services you’re offering. Think about your prospect and create a headline that will benefit them, improve their life and make things easier.
